MEETING:
The
regularly scheduled SHARC club meeting will not be held this month due to
the annual Christmas party.
SHARC
CHRISTMAS PARTY:
SHARC
members and their "significant others" are cordially invited to
the Sand Hills ARC annual Christmas party/dinner to be held in Garden City
on Saturday December 8, 2007 at 6pm.
The location is the Finnup Fellowship Hall of the Community Congregational
Church which is located on the corner of Walnut and 3rd Street which is 1
block east of St. Catherine Hospital on Walnut St or across the street
from the Finney County Library.
The meal is catered BBQ by Adam's Rib of Garden City. The cost is
$5.00/head.
We will also have our fun filled "Amateur Radio trivia Quiz” Please
RSVP via email to NØKQX at N0KQX@arrl.net
ASAP if you plan to attend so we can get an accurate total.
2
METER SSB BEACON:
Chad N0YK
just finished updating his web site; here is the link to the 2
Meter Beacon page if anyone is interested in seeing the
station details. http://users.wbsnet.org/n0yk/beacon.htm
Chad is looking at stacking 4 Ho Loops @
100 feet in the near future. Chad will also host a bigger and better
Christmas light show at his QTH. Last year he made headlines with his
light show and I know it has been greatly expanded this year so drive out
to Friend and take a look.
NEW HAMS:
Some new
hams have moved to Garden City. Ron KP2BX and Linda NP2GA Kern have moved
here from Washington State. They plan on being active in the club so if
you here them on the air please give them a welcome. Also Ryan Powers
KD0AQO in Garden City has a 2m mobile radio so listen for some new calls
on the air.
UFO CALL:
The Saucer
Ridge ARA of Roswell NM petitioned the FCC for an amateur call sign of
NM5UFO. Not seeing any humor in the request, the FCC denied the petition.
The requested call sign was not in sequential order beginning with a K or
W that are issued for this call format.
TEST
SESSION:
SKECT will
again conduct a one day Technician class followed by a VE test Session.
This will
be held on Saturday, December 15th at the National Guard Armory
located just north of the Civic Center or 1rst and Soule St. The class
will begin at 8:30 AM. Upgrade exams will also be done that day so crack
the books and study for an upgrade. There have been approximately 45 new
hams licensed in the SW Kansas area since June.
REPEATER
EQUIPMENT:
The
repeater and linking equipment has arrived for the SKECT UHF linked repeater
network. Garden
City- 442.500 Syracuse – 444.500 Hugoton – 444.525 Dodge City –
444.550
are
the planned frequencies but I don’t know what the tones will be. I will
post them when I know for sure.
