Cozumel Trip Report HERE.
We have three newly certified divers:
Certified in Santa Rosa, New Mexico May 26 & 27:
New Scuba Divers:
Jeff Seba from Garden City, Kansas
Jr. Scuba Diver:
Jessie Weigum from Holly Colorado
Crystal Weigum from Holly Colorado
We think it's great for families to dive together and Crystal & Jessie being sisters will make diving something else for them to share for the rest of their lives. We hope to see more of our new divers on group trips.
Jeff Seba took scuba for his Buff project as a Senior this year at Garden City High School. We are extremely pleased to see him finish his certification. One of the really great things is Jeff has already made plans to use his new certification in Cancun in the coming months. Great job Jeff!
We hope to have our new sign up soon. Plans and designs are being approved and fine tuned. Next Garden City Class is scheduled for June 8,9 & 10 Plenty of space. DON'T WAIT, SIGN UP TODAY!
Pratt Splash is scheduled for June 6th from 6 to 8 pm and class is being scheduled for June 22, 23 & 24. Anyone interested in classes in Pratt, please contact us and sign up as we will need 6 people to make the class.
We hope to have a summer schedule out soon. We've been busy completing our move and getting our showroom floor set up. We are now located at the National 9 Inn. We have moved our shop and home there. We manage the Motel as well, so you can see we have been busy. I wouldn't have it any other way. We appreciate everyone's patience during our relocation. (The above was posted June 3rd, 2001.)

Cozumel April 2001
Trip report:
"Getting there is half the fun" they say. Paying less to get there is also a lot of fun. Helen and I took Adventure Tours' seven day Casa Del Mar / Cozumel trip (Through Tri-State SCUBA) leaving out of Dallas / Ft. Worth airport.
Getting to the DFW airport from Wichita can run from $315 to $907 --- Round Trip ---depending. Up pops an offer to take Big Sky Airlines commuter turbo prop from Ponca City to DFW for a little over $100, R.T. Since my daughter lives in Ponca City, and I needed to work on her computer, all of a sudden it was a natural thing to do.If you haven't discussed Adventure Tours' trips with Jon and Paulette, you need to ---- They are super bargains. Stop by the shop and get a copy of the AT catalog.
Helen and I have stayed at numerous hotels in Cozumel, including the 'all inclusive' places, but we really like the Casa Del Mar.
The first thing they said when we checked in was that they would take $75 off the top of whatever restaurant bill we ran up.
Then, they provided 'chits' for no-charge buffet breakfasts for our entire stay. They said they were trying to cultivate Adventure Tour's patronage. Since the buffet breakfast is first class (omelets as you like them, etc.) that was a real treat.Incidentally --- Cozumel is holding steady on most of the prices for basic services; taxis, dive trips, restaurants, etc. It was in 1999 that we were last there and cabs are still about US$3. A five day dive package is still US$220. But some items on the restaurant menus may be somewhat higher. The rate of exchange is constantly changing and some cab drivers watch this closer than others. I found out that there are 427 cabs operating in Cozumel --- you will get good, prompt taxies with that many cabs. So what's $3 or $4 to keep that fleet operating? (How far would a $3 cab ride take you in N.Y. or Chicago?)
And, Del Mar Aquatics is just over the bridge and has been a very pleasant diving experience for us for years and years.
I won't say much about the individual dive sites / trips. Let's face it: --- Cozumel is World Class diving. (I remember meeting a divemaster from Hawaii who came to Cozumel for good diving.)
But, there's more to Cozumel than just diving. The town of San Miguel has become like our "second home town". We feel as safe (safer?) in Cozumel than we do in our first home town. We know where the Mom and Pop grocery stores are, where our favorite restaurants are, and make it a point to discover a new restaurant, or shop each time we go to Cozumel.
It's really curious ---- Absolutely the best pizza I have ever had is in Cozumel, Mexico. And, "PizzaRolandi" is run by a Swiss family ---- Go Figure---?
And, speaking of Italian, if I want really good Italian food, the first thing I have to do is get on an airplane and go to Cozumel! La Prima is second to none. They have a very elaborate menu. And --- their garlic bread is the best I have ever had. (died and gone to heaven) Helen's veal parmesan has set a new standard for that dish.
In Garden City the best fajitas I ever had was at K-Bob's. Since they're gone, I have been on a constant search. Ernesto's Fajita Factory in San Miguel ain't too bad. There are two of them. One next to the Casa Del Mar, and a second, in town.
I guess I have to be candid --- We ate at the Sonoro Grill and at La Choza. These are places we've dinned at before. But we weren't overly impressed, this time. Sorry ---
Before I leave the Restaurant scene I have to remind you to put the
"Lobster's Cove" on your list.
The "Lobster's Cove" is on Helen's --- must-do --- list. She needs her lobster fix each trip to Cozumel. This place is located just South of the Hotel Barracuda.Oh --- I should mention ---- If you're out for an evening walk, after dinner, pop into Cozumel's "Wal Mart" . It's just across the street from Plaza Las Glorias . Now I don't want to sabotage the Mom and Pop grocery stores, but I couldn't find tea in those shops. And, I like to bring home some hot sauce and native teas. And this store has a wide variety of teas to choose from. Great fun to shop in --- and --- they take greenbacks, as do almost all shops in Cozumel. (and they'll give you change in greenbacks, too, if you want.).
Now I hate to do this. But I have to give you the URL for Cozumel's live Web Cam.
Down in Cozumel, Mexico, about two blocks South of Pepi's Bar and Grill, is a place called the "Calling Station". This is a place where you can check your E-mail, etc., but they have a live camera shooting West out over the downtown bay area. The camera puts a fresh picture on the Internet every minuet or so, of the conditions in Cozumel. The camera comes live about 8:00 AM and switches off about 5:30 PM. If you can catch it late in the afternoon, you can see some really spectacular sunsets. I hate to give you this URL, 'cause it'll tear your heart out ----
